If you're looking to experience nature at its purest and most inspiring, here are 5 forests worth visiting.
- The Daintree, Queensland : Queensland, Australia is home to one of the most lavish rainforests in the world. It is famously known as the place where 'the rainforest meets the reef' and has one of the largest ranges of animals and plants of the planet Earth. The most beautiful part of it all has got to be where the coral reef pushes up against the white sand beaches that merge into tropical rainforest.
- Cloud Forest, Ecuador : The cloud forest spans both sides of the Andes and is made up of one of the most remarkable biodiversities in the world. This is especially true for the number of bird species that can be found there. The forests are lush and full of beautiful orchids. The temperature, although close to the Equator remains mild, with precipitation coming down in the form of mist. Recommended travel season is from June to December when it's nice and dry.
- The Amazon, Brazil : The Amazon is a moist leaf forest that spreads into nine countries, but is mostly in Brazil. The Amazon is not only the biggest single rainforest in the world, but also makes up for 50% of the world's surviving rainforest. Moreover, it has more biodiversity than any other, with more than a third of the world's species living in the Amazon. One of the most incredible things of all is that amongst the animals, plants and excessive heat live many tribes of people.
- Alaska's Back Country, Alaska : Along the western seaboard of North America just north of Vancouver lies vast back country, which is also the largest expanse of temperate rainforest on the planet. The land itself is incredible with incredible forests, mountains, inlets and oceans. A recommended place to start your journey are the forests on the Chilkoot Inlet which are near the Haines in Southern Alaska.
- Monteverde Reserve, Costa Rica : Monteverde is home to more than one hundred mammal species, four hundred species of birds, thousands of different plants, including more than 400 different kinds of orchids. There are many marked trails where visitors can hike and look out at the jaguars, macaws, snakes, butterflies, monkeys and more. The Monteverde Forest is one of the most interesting places to visit in Costa Rica, and as a rainforest, is fairly easy to visit.
There is so much life and so much lush in the world. And with so much of it having been cut down already, it's well worth going to have a visit before it's too late.
