Grand Teton National Park-The Gem Of The West

Posted by pahpoh 1:33 AM, under ,, | No comments

Most people don't know this, but the Jackson Hole Airport is the only airport located inside a national park with regular airline service! I have flown there many times over the last 25 years and have enjoyed every landing, every scene and every activity.

Grand Teton National Park is located about 4 miles north of the town of Jackson, Wyoming. If the pioneers of the 1850's had seen this area first they may never have made Oregon or Salt Lake City.

The Grand Teton towers above all mountain peaks in the area. It reaches an altitude of 13,780' above sea level and is known as the "youngest" mountain in the Rockies. Rising over a vertical mile from the valley floor and standing as sentinel beside the famous Snake River, this area is home to "America's Serengeti."

Very few areas in North America are more environmentally protected with 97% of all land area in Teton County being under either federal control or under the control of private conservation organizations.

Posted by pahpoh 12:14 PM, under ,, | No comments

Biscayne National Park is in Florida on the southeastern Atlantic coast. There is no charge to enter the park but fees are charged for camping and docking boats overnight. The park's extends over 170,000 acres, almost 95% of which is under water. There are 45 low islands in the park, called keys. Visitors can participate in many types of water activities in the park. There are also some things to do on land.

1. What To Do On Land
Visitors can learn about the park at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center at Convoy Point. Exhibits in the museum focus on the park's ecosystems and artwork inspired by the park is displayed in a gallery and films are shown here, as well. Visitors can touch bones, coral and other items at the Touch Table. Educational items are sold in the bookstore and souvenirs are sold in the gift shop.
